The left will always be the first to criticize the right for “mixing religion with politics,” yet, the left is far more guilty of this than we are. In fact, not only is the left guilty of this, but they use their religion as a tool to advance very un-Christian ideologies, twisting the Scriptures beyond recognition.
Mount Airy Church of God in Christ in Philadelphia hosted Joe Biden this past weekend where Biden preached a very familiar gospel—a false gospel called Black Liberation Theology.
Black Liberation Theology, birthed from the civil rights era and popularized by James Cone at Union Theological Seminary, twists Christian theology to focus on black oppression and social justice. It’s a false gospel because it exchanges Christ’s redemptive work on the cross for worldly liberation. It pushes a man-centered agenda, turning the gospel into a mere tool for political activism.
We all know he didn’t write this speech himself, but it was fascinating listening to Biden repeat such things. Listening to Biden pander to this church with such antics raises the question: who put him up to this? To be clear, Biden’s brain doesn’t work this way, or at all. So for him to push what is clearly the tenets of Liberation Theology at a black church during a campaign rally is, well, bewildering.
In Delaware, I attended a morning mass in my church and head to Sunday services at black churches I said early on. I’ve always felt the power of your faith in good times and in tough times. The fact is, the scripture says, all things work together for good.
To those who love God are now called according to His purpose. Our purpose is to serve others. That’s our purpose. To know everyone is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect. To know faith without works is dead.
After preaching about how “faith without works is dead,” he then goes on to list off his list of “accomplishments” for blacks.
In my life and as your president, I’ve tried to walk my faith. To get us through the pandemic, I claimed a million loved ones and left eight million people with an empty chair at dinner or breakfast because of someone they lost.
To ensure that the economy has the lowest black unemployment and more black small businesses in decades. To rebuild and ensure black America has a peace of mind that comes with health care for everybody.
To ensure you can follow your dreams without the burden of student debt. To make housing affordable, help more black families build wealth and pass it on through generation. To keep our community safe by getting weapons of war off our streets.
To give hate, no safe harbor. While there are those who want to erase history, Common and I want to make it. Because black history is American history. Of course, there’s more to do to deliver jobs injustice. There’s more to do. But above all, we need to protect our rights, the rights of all Americans, to make sure democracy works for you.
