In the Old Testament, we see numerous examples of societies adopting practices that are abominable in the sight of God. One such practice was the sacrifice of children to false gods. In our modern era, this same spirit of rebellion against God’s design is manifesting not just in the common practice of idol worship that we conveniently call “abortion,” but also in the form of the cult-like religious movement of transgenderism.
This contemporary form of idolatry rejects the natural order created by God and instead exalts self-definition and personal desire above all else. Yet we see clearly in Scripture God’s disposition toward such evil:
You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination. —Leviticus 18:22
Today, in our culture of self-idolatry, secular humanism, and entitlement, sexual immorality has been normalized and accepted. Yet, this practice is no different than that of ancient times—only the god (self) is disguised as someone else. While we don’t typically bow before golden statues as the ancient pagans did, we nonetheless sacrifice our God-given identities to appease the idols of today—self-expression, sexual freedom, and personal autonomy.
The Bible is clear that God created humanity in His own image, male and female.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. —Genesis 1:27
This distinction is foundational to human identity and purpose. The rejection of this divine design through the adoption of queer theory and transgender ideologies is a direct assault on God’s creation and His image. It is among the most abominable things in the eyes of God. We read in Romans 1:26-27 that God gave those who rejected Him over to dishonorable passions and unnatural relations, leading to their own degradation and dishonor.
For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. —Romans 1:26-27
This passage reveals the spiritual and physical consequences of abandoning God’s design. Just as ancient societies faced God’s wrath for their idolatry, so too will modern societies that embrace and promote such sexual evil. These consequences are severe and unavoidable.

But what about the call to love and acceptance? The true love of God does not affirm sin—it does not “attend gay weddings” or practice “pronoun hospitality”—it calls for repentance and faith. In John 8, Jesus encounters a woman caught in adultery. He tells her to “go and sin no more.” This is the heart of the gospel—grace and truth without compromise.
Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more. —John 8:11
God’s love calls us to repentance, not affirmation of sin. The ultimate expression of God’s love is found in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Hebrews 10:10 states that we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. This is the only acceptable sacrifice to God, and it is sufficient to redeem all who turn to Him in repentance and faith.
Transgenderism, bodily autonomy, and queer theory—these are denials of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. They show a lack of trust in God’s design and provision, instead placing trust in oneself. Do not sacrifice your God-given identity on the altar of false gods. Instead, repent, and turn to the only sacrifice that can save you.
And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. —Hebrews 10:10
In rejecting these modern idols, we affirm the truth of God’s Word and the sufficiency of Christ’s sacrifice. We uphold the sanctity of His design and the hope of redemption for all who turn to Him. We must stand firm in this truth, proclaiming it boldly in a world that desperately needs to hear it.
