In the ever-evolving melange of the American social and political landscape, California governor, Gavin Newsom’s controversial two-year-old legislative move is about to hit the fan. This law, Assembly Bill No. 1084, may stand as one of the most profound markers of change in his career. Signed into law by Newsom in 2021, this legislation mandates a seismic shift in how retail stores present children’s toys and childcare items. Specifically, it requires that retail outlets with a workforce exceeding 500 workers must establish a “gender-neutral” toy section on their premises. This law, set to take effect from January 1, 2024, is poised to reshape the retail experience, not merely in the toy aisles of these stores, but in the broader social narrative surrounding gender and childhood.

At the heart of this legislation lies a premise that transcends the commercial domain, venturing into the deeply personal realm of moral and ethical values. For business owners, store managers, and sales associates, especially those holding fast to Christian ethics and traditional, family-centric worldviews, this law represents more than a mere rearrangement of shelves and labels. It is a directive that compels them to participate in—and thereby implicitly endorse—a perspective on gender and sexuality that stands in stark contrast to their Christian views. The law, in essence, demands a conformity of thought and practice that grates against the conscience of many.

The crux of the concern lies in the implication of this law on young, impressionable minds. The introduction of “gender-neutral” toy sections undoubtedly steers children into a maelstrom of gender confusion. This shift is not merely about the placement of dolls and trucks—it’s a subtle, yet potent, nudge towards a worldview that blurs and redefines the boundaries of male and female as ordained by God. The innocence of childhood play is thus entangled in a broader agenda of sexual and moral relativism.

Moreover, this legislative thrust towards gender neutrality in toy aisles is emblematic of a deeper cultural and spiritual battle. It is a deliberate undermining of the traditional family unit which is foundational to a functioning and stable society. This deconstruction is not a mere shifting of societal norms but a dismantling of the foundational truths about human identity and relationships as established by God. In replacing these truths with a fluid, subjective understanding of gender and sexuality, these kinds of laws not only legitimize but fuel a broader sexual revolution—one that champions personal autonomy at the expense of logic, reason, and divine authority.

This is not good, neither for us as Christian people nor for us as a nation. This unfolding scenario in California, emblematic of a broader cultural shift, mirrors a troubling distortion in our societal ethos. It signifies a stark departure from a worldview that recognizes God as the supreme authority, where His intentional design for humanity and relationships is revered and upheld. In stark contrast, this new direction elevates human wisdom and preference, guiding society down a perilous path where truth becomes unmoored from divine foundations, adrift in a tumultuous sea of human opinion and desire.

The gravity of this shift cannot be understated, for history and Scripture alike bear witness to the dire consequences that befall societies that turn their backs on God’s design, especially in the realm of sexual morality. Genesis 19 paints a harrowing picture of two cities, Sodom and Gomorrah, steeped in sexual confusion, which had become so pervasive and normalized that it corrupted the very fabric of their society. God’s response was unequivocal—a cataclysmic judgment of fire and brimstone, erasing these cities from the earth as a stark warning to all generations of the seriousness with which God views such transgressions.

Paul then chronicles the downward spiral where people, despite knowing God, chose not to glorify Him or give thanks, but instead became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, worshiping and serving created things rather than the Creator. Paul’s discourse in Romans illustrates God’s judgment—being given over to sexual revolution very similar to what we see in our nation today—when people turn their backs on Him.

In the face of such historical and biblical precedents, the trajectory set forth by laws such as these should be a matter of grave concern. This is not merely a legislative issue, it is a spiritual one, a demonstration of God’s wrath on a nation increasingly distancing itself from the biblical blueprint for human relationships and sexuality.

The warning from Scripture is clear: those who forsake God’s law position themselves in the perilous path of divine judgment. This trajectory, if left uncorrected, leads not only to moral and spiritual decay but ultimately to God’s righteous judgment. There is no doubt that America is under God’s judgment, and God’s people should be prepared to face the coming onslaught of persecution against anyone who opposes the world’s ideologies with truth.
