The antics of Florida Southern Baptist megachurch, Church by the Glades, have reached a level of circus-like absurdity that calls into question the very essence of a religious sanctuary. Led by David Hughes, this circus has become more synonymous with grandiose spectacles than spiritual nourishment. The congregation in Coral Springs, Florida, has witnessed a plethora of events that are more theatrical performances than anything resembling worship of the true and holy God.

Church by the Glades, the circus masquerading as a sanctuary, dances to the whims of secular tunes, leaving the Bible on a dusty shelf. Under the ringleader, David Hughes, Sunday sermons seem more like carnivals, dazzling the crowd with worldly spectacles.

Everything from Justin Timberlake’s beats replacing hymns, and the irony of belting out lyrics that emphasize “living life to the fullest,” in a hedonistic manner while singing the lyrics of a man who committed suicide after drug use is baffling, to say the least. And the show didn’t stop there. Hughes even paraded a unicorn on stage, or corrupting Mother’s Day with profane rap. We’ve documented it all at The Dissenter.

Every act, a mockery of God, lures the crowd further into a tent of hedonism, far from the solemn path of spiritual reverence. The grand finale? Ringing in the new year to the tunes of Beyoncé, a brazen nod to the circus’s ever-enthralling disdain for the sacred. So it should come as no surprise that the week before the Pagan holiday, Halloween, the church would worship to the Addams Family theme song while dressed up like demon-possessed zombies and demonic figures.
