The seeker-sensitive church movement is one of the longest-running church heresies in modern times. It aims to make the church “fun” and “exciting” to attract people, but it is a terrible practice in Evangelicalism that should be pushed out and rejected wholly.
David Crank, the pastor of Faith Church, takes this enticement to the extreme by making church “compelling” by cracking weed jokes and turning the church into a comedy club. Although most seeker-sensitive churches deny going that far, Crank openly admits that his church is nothing more than a comedy club.
But in a more recent sermon, Crank stands in front of a glaring image of pop-star singer Rihanna with her breasts almost completely out while he preaches about the Superbowl.
Watch with caution:
Like, it doesn’t even really matter what he said, though I’m quite sure it was something stupid. When you flash an image like that on the screen, exactly what do you think everyone in the audience is going to focus on?
Crank’s perversion of the church tells us what we need to know about him—that he believes Christ alone is not enough to attract people to church.
