We’ve covered the saga surrounding The Gospel Coalition author who published an article that talked about Christ “penetrating” the Church and injecting the “seed” of His Word into her in order for the Church to produce “children of God.” The asinine comparison, not derived from Scripture, to a man having sex with his wife, was based on Joshua Butler’s book, Beautiful Union.

The article, which read like an excerpt from a pornographic romance novel, led to the retraction of several book endorsements, the retraction of the article from TGC itself, and scorn from both conservatives and progressives who found it to be, to say the least, distasteful.

But those words from Joshua Butler were written, and they were bad enough. But to actually hear Butler say these words out of his mouth as he laughs and smiles about it demonstrates a new level of cringe that nobody should have to endure.

Speaking just as he did in his article, in this clip that recently surfaced, Butler again talks about Christ “penetrating” His bride, but this time, he explicitly uses the word “sperma,” adding a new level of cringe to the entire picture he’s already painted.

Contrast—what a concept, simple yet immense. In its essence, contrast is the art of opposition, the power of two divergent things placed side by side, each making the other clearer, more defined, and more intense. It is the interplay of light against shadow, the...
