It’s understandable that there are certain situations where homeschooling simply isn’t possible. And in a society that places demands on families that require children to be educated according to certain standards set by the state, often, Christian parents find themselves in a situation where no other option exists but to send their children to public schools.
I certainly sympathize with these parents and I don’t have all of the solutions, but I do believe that the Church should stand up to support Christian parents in these dire situations.
That being said, it is growing increasingly and incredibly crucial for parents to make every available effort and sacrifice to pull their children out of the public school system immediately. In fact, even private schools—private Christian schools—are growing increasingly hostile to conservative Christian families who actually believe the Word of God and obey it. I’m not throwing all private Christian schools under the bus, but the good ones are few and far between and even they are becoming out of the financial reach of most Christian parents.
What’s the alternative? Homeschooling.

Believe, me. I’ve thought this through, sought wise counsel, and battled back and forth in my own mind and with people I trust. But it’s better to sacrifice your standard of living than to lose your children to the ever-increasing hostile-to-Christianity culture out there. And if you leave your children in public schools, the far-left propagandists in the classrooms are the ones essentially parenting your children. And they aren’t parenting them to your Christian standards.
Take a look at the recent example of a mother named Lindsey Barr. Barr, a Christian who has children in a Georgia public school also worked as a substitute teacher in her children’s school. Barr raised concerns with the school about a pro-LGBTQ book being read to young children. Barr was immediately fired from her position upon raising concerns on the grounds that she wouldn’t be able to serve without “discriminating” against LGBTQ children.
This is the kind of indoctrination that the nation’s public school system is hell-bent on serving up to your children. If you think you can out-parent your children’s teachers or counter what they’re being taught in these schools with a couple of hours of Sunday school per week, you’re really being naive. It is incredibly crucial that you make every effort to raise your children up in the knowledge of the Lord.
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. —Proverbs 22:6
Please, don’t listen to your typical megachurch Evangelical talking head who writes for The Gospel Coalition or the ERLC—their job isn’t to give you unadulterated biblical truth. Their job is to please as many ears as they can by telling parents that they can keep their kids in public schools while spending all their money on lavish vacations, expensive cars, and three-story homes. Why? Because that’s what people want to hear.
The gospel of Jesus Christ—that we as mankind are sinners in the eyes of God, unworthy of being called righteous, yet while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8), that he did so in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-5), and that those who repent and believe in Him will have everlasting life—is not a popular message in today’s world. But it is the message your children need to hear daily.
They are not going to hear that in public school, and the reality is, you could very well lose your children by sending them there. Below is a montage of public school teachers in an increasingly leftist public school system. Ask yourself if you really want to risk handing your children over to these people.
