Abortion is the taking of innocent unborn life. Abortion is cruel, intolerable, and for the true, born-again believer who understands the value of life given by God Himself, is a repulsive act of rebellion against our Creator.

But that doesn’t matter to Southern Baptist pastor, Dwight McKissic. Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, McKissic has been on a crusade to codify the pro-choice movement into the Southern Baptist Convention’s doctrines. In a previous article, we covered McKissic’s Twitter diatribe against the anti-abortion movement, calling for legal abortions.

In that Twitter thread, McKissic argues that pregnancy is a “consequence” of a choice rather than, as the Scriptures put it, “a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.” (Psalm 127:3) As long as the child was conceived by the consensual choice of the parents, he argues, they merit legal protection. However, if the child, through no fault of his own, is not conceived by consent of both parents or by incestual consent, that child has no right to protection. That child is less than human.

I honestly never thought I’d see the day when a Southern Baptist pastor, a prominent, involved, and an outspoken one at that, would openly admit that he supports abortion in these cases. McKissic’s argument demonstrates that he is driven by leftist political ideology over biblical ideology—the two are completely incompatible. And when asked to take a stand, he repeatedly

Since then, his efforts to make Southern Baptists swallow abortion have only intensified. Today, he has compared abortion to such things as eschatology and other doctrinal teachings of various importance. In a tweet today, McKissic says that killing innocent children who have committed no wrong should be allowed in certain circumstances—and that drawing hardline positions on this in the Southern Baptist Convention “is not wise.”

Is this what a Christian thinks? Is this how a Christian pastor should act? Would he hold the same position if the child were older, already born? Why do these “exceptions” only matter if the child is unborn? This simply demonstrates that he doesn’t believe God when he says that all life is made in His image. The fact that the Southern Baptist Convention hasn’t taken a hardline position for disfellowshipping Dwight McKissic is very telling of the doctrinal drift of the denomination that is causing so many solid Bible-believing churches to jump ship.
