Kevin Smith, who was not a part of the 9Marks panel on racism at the 2022 Southern Baptist Convention, apparently made himself a part of the panel and took the microphone to express his opinion about Trump voters in the Southern Baptist Convention. Kevin Smith has served as the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC).

Smith drew the attention of Southern Baptists after it was asked on social media if Smith made a racist remark toward white people who voted for Trump:

To clarify, it was Kevin Smith who made that comment—and it was far worse.

I’d love to know what some white brothers think about this. White (unintelligible). You mentioned ten years as a window and I’m less hopeful ten years later. I think some Southern Baptists lost their minds when a black man was elected president. Not all, but some.

I think some Southern Baptists were unloving to black people beginning in 2012 with the killing of Trayvon Martin. I don’t mean agree about politics or policy…I just mean giving a darn that somebody else is hurting who is supposed to be your brother or sister in Christ.

And I think some Southern Baptists just bent over and became political whores with this whole Trump stuff. And if black innerrantists like Ralph West (Pastor of Houston’s The Church Without Walls who announced he left the SBC) feels alienated and black innerrantists like John Onwuchekwa (Pastor of Cornerstone Church in Atlanta who left the SBC) feels alienated and black innerrantists like Charlie Dates (Left the SBC) feels alienated, I just wonder if white brothers think this has been kind of crazy- black/white stuff going on, Asian, Hispanic. Just people who aren’t white feeling like they’re tolerated but not really embraced.

I’m not talking about me. I’ve been here thirty years so I got true friendships, but people in their twenties haven’t been here thirty years. So I just wanted to (unintelligible) what white brothers think the race thing is in the SBC?”

Here is the video (HT/Protestia):

Smith went on to try to rationalize his outrageous comments by framing it as a “discussion among friends” where “some guys always get their panties-in-a-wad whenever race is discussed.”

How Hollywood Has the Christian Church in Bondage to Sin

If our church members fall into the habit of frequenting the theatre, we shall soon have them going much further in the direction of vice, and they will lose all relish for the ways of God. If theatre-going became general among professing Christians, it would be the...

How to Not Use 1 Timothy 4:12

Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12 I have grown up my whole life in ministry. From the time I was born, I was visiting prisoners in jail, giving food to the...

The Gospel of Jesus Christ

The Gospel of Jesus Christ

The GOSPEL is the greatest news for anyone, any man, any woman, every child on earth. Jesus Christ died on the Cross to save YOU! The Bible tells us that ALL fall short of God’s glory and that we are ALL in need of his mercy. It can be confusing if you don’t...

The Pharisee Card

You're here because someone (maybe you) played the Pharisee card. Consider the following, and let's all remember that if you're going to play the Pharisee card, you should play it fairly. OK, so I stole the idea from an article posted at Issues Etc. But the next time...

Why Hillsong Music is Dangerous For Your Church

Why Hillsong Music is Dangerous For Your Church

Hillsong Church does not exist to preach the Word of God, and to draw people to Christ, bringing glory to His holy name–it exists to draw people to their music, making them money, and giving them power, and giving glory to their man-centered, man-built pseudo-spiritual empire. Brian Houston clearly preaches a false gospel. Southern Baptist leader, Albert Mohler, stated,

Bethel Church GLORY CLOUD from God or Not?

I have always thought Bill Johnson of Bethel Church was a shady pastor with all the bizarre miracles happening at his church. Now others are debunking his works and questioning his works. I am sure you must have heard of the Glory Cloud or Gold dust smoke. Let us say...
