The newly-elected president of the Southern Baptist Convention, Ed Litton, has been caught up in one of the biggest plagiarism scandals in modern times. Litton has been caught plagiarizing at least 8 of his predecessor’s sermons and the accusations–along with the undeniable proof–have been clearly documented on Reformation Charlotte, Capstone Report, Protestia, and even mainstream media outlets including the NY Times and Newsweek. Further, the accusations along with the documented proof have been covered in toto on social media outlets, particularly Twitter. None of the accusations have been anonymous–as though that would even matter.
Despite the unassailable proof of plagiarism, Ed Litton was recently interviewed by Bill Riales on a local CBS affiliate, WKRG, where he dismissed the scandal stating that he “had permission” and that the allegations against him were made by “unnamed sources.”
This publication doesn’t often accuse people of lying–typically, we give the benefit of the doubt and assume that people are either stupid or just unaware of something false they are saying. But this is undeniable; Ed Litton completely lied in this interview and dismissed the claims against.
