There is no doubt that the world is facing a crisis like never before seen by most people alive in this generation and the world is practically helpless. Scrambling to try to figure out what to do, scientists are racing to find a medical cure for the COVID-19 virus will legislators are busy locking down cities and states across the globe as the world’s economy is destroyed before our eyes.

And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to what ought not to be done. — Romans 1:28

The world has mocked God past his point of patience — He will not be mocked (Galatians 6:7). Yet, he is merciful in that he hasn’t wiped us all out completely and instantaneously, giving us time to acknowledge Him.

One Pennsylvania legislator has made an attempt to bring her state back to God by acknowledging Him and repenting of what she says are “presumptuous sins.” Pennsylvania state house representative Stephanie Borowicz recently introduced House Resolution 835 that attempts to bring light to the state of what exactly is happening and acknowledge God.

The Resolution designates March 30, 2020 as “A State Day of Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer” and reads, “The House of Representatives devoutly recognizes the Supreme Authority and just government of Almighty God in all the affairs of men and of nations…”

The resolution goes on to acknowledge that it is “duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God,” and to confess their sins and transgressions in “humble sorrow” and with “assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon.”

How many legislators are willing to acknowledge something so bold and truthful? Heck, how many pastors in this nation are willing to acknowledge something so truthful?

The resolution also acknowledges that the Scriptures teach that God only blesses those nations who are in submission to God.

May we not justly fear that the awful calamity of the pandemic, which now desolates this Commonwealth may be but a punishment inflicted upon us for our presumptuous sins to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole people?

The resolution acknowledges that the nation has grown in numbers, wealth, and power like no other nation but has forgotten God, and have instead, “vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own” and that the nation is “intoxicated with unbroken success” and self-sufficiency.

Borowicz is calling on the state of Pennsylvania to repent of self-righteousness, vanity, and idolatry and turn to God. This is the wisest thing any politician could do and every politician in the nation should be introducing this kind of resolution — and the Church should be backing them.

The entire resolution can be read here.
