The Gospel Coalition is on a mission to move Evangelicals in a leftward direction both politically and theologically. While most of the contributors to the organization overlap with the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission — another organization designed to uproot conservatism in the Church — there is no shortage from either camp of pro-Democratic materials.

Disguised as “politically-neutral,” The Gospel Coalition knows that in order to move the Evangelical voting bloc to the left, they must only downplay the importance of conservative ideology — since the vast majority of Evangelicals are traditionally conservative — and give the impression that politics really “don’t matter that much.”

The Gospel Coalition recently published another article asserting that standing on your political principles can “blow your witness” to Jesus and implying that both political parties are morally equivalent. The article titled The High Stakes of How Christians Approach Power, interviews Scott Sauls and asks the question, “In this election year, how should Christians navigate the power dynamics of politics in ways that glorify God and don’t damage our Christian witness?”

Sauls replies,

Christians have a great opportunity in 2020 to either blow our witness or establish it. We will blow our witness if we continue to conflate our Christianity with partisan platforms, especially when we do so from a self-serving, uncharitable, and blindly partisan posture. We will, on the other hand, establish our witness if we approach the political landscape in the same way we are called to approach every landscape—with honesty, humility, and charity. It will do the Christian witness much good if we engage the political process in such a way that praises the virtues and confronts the vices of every party, including the ones we support. For no party is completely virtuous, and no party is completely vicious. I love what Michael Wear [a former Obama staffer and TGC contributor] once said about the chief purpose of the voting booth: it is a realm from which to love our neighbor as ourselves.

While approaching “the political landscape in the same way we are called to approach every landscape—with honesty, humility, and charity” may sound good on the surface, the reality is that TGC believes that the Democrat party is no worse than the Republican party and that it really doesn’t matter how you vote — so long as you’re “honest” about the flaws and virtues of “both sides.”

Of course, any biblically-minded who is actually informed on the subject knows that this is completely absurd and that only a Democrat would make this argument. If we actually examine the facts, a born-again Christian who knows the Scriptures can only come to the conclusion that the Democrat party is completely vicious — of course, it is.

  • It is the only party that has dedicated its platform to the expansion of the continual slaughter of innocent children in the womb — abortion — and even made it clear that pro-life views are not welcome in the Democrat party.
  • It is the only party that is dedicated to the indoctrination of young children into the LGBTQ lifestyle.
  • It is the only party that is dedicated to the destruction of the family in favor of a communal approach to raising children in accordance with cultural values — not biblical values.
  • It is the only party that is dedicated to the unjust theft of property and redistribution of wealth.
  • It is the only party that is dedicated to the destruction of national sovereignty while implementing a system of lawlessness through open-borders and mass illegal immigration.

We could go on and on — but it is clear that the Democrat party is completely vicious. Interestingly, many of these issues sound a lot like what The Gospel Coalition and its contributors push for. Does it sound like The Gospel Coalition is after political neutrality? Or does it sound like they’re trying to push Evangelicals away from traditional conservatism? The answer is clear.
