Tim Keller Says Christians Cannot Reach the World Without โ€œGreat Christian Artโ€

Tim Keller is bad for the Church. Really bad. Like bad news and bad influence. Besides the fact that Keller is one of the foremost propagators of the serious error that one can reject biblical creation and still be a Christian, Keller has influenced the Church toward social gospel heresies, Pagan mysticism, and contemplative prayer. (Iโ€™ve laid all this out in the article, Whatโ€™s the Fascination With Tim Keller.)

Interestingly, Keller seems to have embraced a new form of gospel obfuscation that heโ€™s recently been promoting. A few weeks ago, Keller made the absurd assertion on Twitter that the gospel did not spread in the early church by preaching and evangelism โ€” despite the overwhelming proof and biblical mandate otherwise โ€” but by โ€œlife examples,โ€ whatever that is. Now, heโ€™s saying that unless we have โ€œgreat Christian art,โ€ weโ€™re never going to reach the lost.

Now, I donโ€™t exactly know what he believes is โ€œgreat Christian art,โ€ but one thing is for sure โ€” the Scriptures never speak of such a necessity for reaching the lost. In fact, the Bible is abundantly clear on what Christians need to reach the world.

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, โ€œHow beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!โ€ But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, โ€œLord, who has believed what he has heard from us?โ€ So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Romans 10:14-17

If I had to guess, I would say that someone really needs to reach Tim Keller. Keller has always suffered from theological ataxia, but the stuff heโ€™s been saying lately makes me wonder if heโ€™s not completely lost his marbles. No sane, honest student of the Scriptures could ever walk away with the conclusions heโ€™s been pressing lately. But, coming from a man who held an effeminate ballet production at his church a few years ago, calling that โ€œart,โ€ perhaps we could never really know for sure what heโ€™s thinking.

Speaking the Truth in Lust

Speaking the Truth in Lust

Itโ€™s the darling phrase of modern Evangelicalismโ€”trotted out with breathless solemnity every time someone dares to speak a hard truth too plainly: โ€œWe must speak the truth in love.โ€ Four little words. A verse fragment. A harmless butterfly of a phrase that, somewhere...

Planned Parenthood Shouldnโ€™t Be Defunded, but the ERLC Should Be

I just read an โ€œexplainerโ€ article by the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) published in the Christian Index, and to no one's surprise, itโ€™s exactly what weโ€™ve come to expect from the Southern Baptist Conventionโ€™s well-funded public relations...

Surrogacy is The Childless Gospel of the Left

I ran across a tweet the other day that lodged itself in my mind like a thorn. It was from Genevieve Gluck, a name that occasionally floats across the radar of gender-critical feminism, usually sounding some kind of alarm about the degradation of womanhood at the...

A Response to Twitter Thread on Capital Punishment for Abortions

It started, as these things often do, with a simple question. A seemingly nice lady on Twitterโ€”yet a representative of the typical emotionally charged illogical reasoning of the mainstream pro-life movementโ€”wanted to know how I think my church should handle a woman in...

False Teacher of the Day #59: Kathryn Krick

While we here at The Dissenter along with other discernment ministries have been sounding the alarm on her for some time, any False Teacher of the Day series would be woefully incomplete without a full expose on โ€œApostleโ€ Kathryn Krick. After all, this self-styled...
