When one comes to Christ, one must lay down his carnality and place it at the cross and take up his identity in Christ. This is what Christ means when he says to pick up your cross and follow Him (Matthew 16:24-26). Jesus is saying that when we are born again, we no longer identify with the worldly categories that separated us (Galatians 3:28); we identify with Christ and His people and we follow the teachings of His word (John 14:25).

Despite this, there is a rowdy bunch of Evangelicals who continue to primarily place their identity in their ethnicity at the expense of Christ, His commandments, and the gospel. These men, who claim Christ yet clearly do not represent Him, celebrate evil and wicked politicians simply because of the color of their skin.

This is idolatry, it is not Christian.

Most recently, Jemar Tisby, in a post that was retweeted by Southern Baptist pastor, Dwight McKissic, says that he celebrates the confirmation of pro-LGBTQ, pro-abortion, far-left God-hating Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court because she represents them.

“The way some conservative Christians are reacting” to the appointment, Tisby says, “are giving strong 2008 vibes when they tried to guilt-trip Black Christians for celebrating the election of the first Black president.”

“We celebrate these milestones because we know what it’s like to not be represented and to even be actively repelled,” Tisby continued.

Of course, no true Christian could ever celebrate the wickedness on display at the Supreme Court promulgated by the left. That this wicked woman who hates God, hates children, hates Christians, and hates every commandment of Scripture could be “celebrated” simply because of her skin color by anyone who calls themselves a Christian is astonishing, to say the least. But that any professing Christian would admit that they identify with this woman, or that she represents them, is clear idolatry of melanin.

There is absolutely nothing about this woman that any Christian should celebrate or identify with, and if you find yourself agreeing with her positions on any of the major issues she’s already spoken about, you do not represent Christ.

This echoes the sentiments of other woke Southern Baptist pastors who identify primarily with their skin color over their supposed identity with Christ. Thabiti Anyabwile is a Southern Baptist pastor and an author at Mark Dever’s 9Marks ministry as well as The Gospel Coalition. Anyabwile seemingly denounces his faith in favor of “black solidarity” because he, like all people who have succumbed to the temptation of self-preservation served up by the vain philosophies of social justice, decided he would be safer that way.

This “woke church” movement has severely crippled the intellectual capacity of many people and has become a form of God’s judgment against the Church. This wicked philosophy has now permeated nearly every Church and institution and we have very few church leaders who are willing to speak out against it. Remember, Dwight McKissic, who re-tweeted Jemar Tisby’s tweet, has been staunchly defended by Bart Barber—who is running for SBC president—over these social justice issues.
