You’re probably aware by now that the Southern Baptist Convention is a complete clownshow that has largely, save a very small minority, abandoned sound doctrine in favor of cultural appeasement and seeker-friendliness. The denomination’s current president, Bart Barber, has turned this denomination from a side-show under former president and serial plagiarist, Ed Litton, to a complete circus.

Since Barber’s presidential tenure began, conservatives have been dropping from the SBC in droves and conservative churches have been removing themselves from it as its focus has shifted from the gospel to concerns of the world. At the top of the SBC’s agenda is a sex abuse scandal whereby the denomination has been embroiled in a faux investigation conducted by feminists, LGBTQ activists, and secular investigators in an attempt to discredit conservatives in the denomination as “abusive” and tie it to their conservative beliefs—namely, complementarianism.

Bart Barber has also gone out of his way, along with many other SBC leaders, to defend women who have abortions and paint them as victims, rather than perpetrators, of this crime. But that’s Bart #1. There’s another Bart, one who will be preaching at this year’s Pastors’ Conference, and, well, let’s just say he gives new meaning to the phrase “circus church.”

Bartholomew Orr, pastor of Brown Missionary Baptist Church in Southaven, MS, will be one of the featured speakers at this year’s 2023 SBC Pastors’ Conference. A few years ago, Orr made headlines when he pulled a ridiculous circus stunt in church, flying over the congregation on a zip line, while preaching a sermon on Jesus returning.

Of course, this is completely absurd, very non-pastoral, and is very indicative of where the Southern Baptist Convention is headed—into complete and total apostasy. The fact is, most Southern Baptists believe that these kinds of stunts and entertainment, from rock concerts to circus stunts, are necessary to keep people in the pews and keep the money rolling in.
