Voddie Baucham, the conservative choice for the Southern Baptist Convention’s 2023 Pastors’ Conference, lost to his opponent, Dan Dickard in his bid for the Pastors Conference presidency by 6 points.

In March, the Conservative Baptist Network announced that Voddie Baucham and Reformed pastor, Tom Ascol, would be running as a duo for the presidential positions of the Pastors’ Conference and the annual meeting, respectively.

There has been some question as to Voddie Baucham’s eligibility to serve in a leadership role in the Southern Baptist Convention due to his status as an overseas missionary. Baucham’s church required him to join a local church as he served as Dean of Theology at African Christian University in Lusaka, Zambia. However, his remaining membership to his sending church, a Southern Baptist Church that he planted and supports him, removes the doubt of that ineligibility.

Baucham, a Black pastor, missionary, and church-planter who rejects the invasion of social justice and Critical Race Theory in the Church, has expressed much interest in serving the Southern Baptist Convention, stating that he believes the Southern Baptist Convention is “worth saving.”

Dickard, on the other hand, is a White pastor serving at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC, and who is surrounded by an all-White staff. Dickard serves as the face of the “anti-racist” movement in the Southern Baptist Convention. Go figure.
