Last month, the Salvation Army took a lot of heat after a training curriculum surfaced that urged white people to “lament” and “repent” for being White. As with all organizations that embrace Critical Race Theory, the Salvation Army too began to feel the mounting pressure of going “woke” and going broke. It turns out that people don’t like to be falsely accused of something they are not guilty of. Who knew?

Part of the training guide, which has now since been removed, read in part, “The desire is that Salvationists achieve the following: Lament, repent and apologize for biases or racist ideologies held and actions committed.” The guide implied that guilt was inherent in some people based on nothing more than the color of their skin.

Greg Koukl, a Christian apologist and Bible teacher, posted an open letter on Facebook announcing that he would be withdrawing support from Salvation Army after he defended the organization two years earlier from Chick-fil-A who stopped supporting them because they didn’t support homosexuality. It’s amazing to watch just how quickly organizations cave when they believe it will benefit them to do so.

The Salvation Army—unwittingly, I believe—has made common cause with an ideology that is openly hostile to Christianity if you read the fine print. Patriarchal, “homophobic,” “transphobic,” anti-woman (because of the pro-life view), religiously narrow Christianity epitomizes oppression to the advocates of critical theory, the larger ideological umbrella that CRT falls under.

Sadly, TSA has joined the wrong side on this issue. There are lots of good things The Salvation Army continues to do all over the world, helping the poor and disadvantaged. However, at the moment, The Salvation Army is advancing a destructive ideology that is inconsistent with the biblical worldview, and therefore I cannot contribute to an organization that does good but also currently promotes something manifestly evil.

It appears that the Salvation Army miscalculated the benefit of embracing this wicked movement and is now facing a serious backlash in donations. According to Fox 13 Seattle, “The situation is dire,” the organization stated. “We are actually trying to provide food, shelter, toys and clothing to double the number of families we served last Christmas, and in the midst of the growing need we are seeing fewer people donating at our virtual and physical kettles.”

Yep, it turns out that when you embrace godless ideologies and start making accusations against your donors, they’d just as soon turn somewhere else. Hopefully, other good organizations will pick up the slack.
