The recent abortion statistics from Scotland published in a press release by Right to Life UK reveal a horrifying reality—abortions reached an unprecedented high in 2023, with 18,207 innocent lives lost. This represents a 9.63% increase from the previous year, and a staggering rise in late-term abortions and abortions among young girls. Right To Life UK responded by calling for the reinstatement of in-person consultations for home abortions. However, this solution is not only flawed—it is demonic in nature.
Quoting from the press release, “Right To Life UK is calling for the Scottish Government to urgently reinstate in-person appointments to prevent women’s lives being put at risk from self-administered abortions.” While the intention to protect women’s lives may seem noble, this focus misses the fundamental issue at hand. The true tragedy is the loss of innocent unborn children—lives that are precious and irreplaceable. It is not the mothers’ lives that are at primary risk, but the lives of the unborn, who are being systematically slaughtered by their mothers under the guise of healthcare and choice.
Right To Life UK’s “pro-life” stance epitomizes the hypocrisy of the mainstream “pro-life” movement. Instead of demanding the complete abolition of abortion, they seek to regulate it, thus implicitly accepting its practice under “acceptable” circumstances. Their call for in-person consultations is an ill-conceived attempt to mitigate the atrocities without addressing the root cause. They state, “Polling shows that 71% of women support the reinstatement of in-person appointments and only 9% are in favour of the status quo.” Yet, this focus on public opinion is misplaced—what should guide us is not cultural consensus but the unchanging moral law of God.
The real problem in Scotland—and in any society that permits abortion—is a profound “lack of fear of God” and a pervasive “culture of death.” The increase in abortions is a direct consequence of a society that has turned its back on God, embracing secular humanism and moral relativism. The rise in late-term abortions and the high number of repeat abortions (39.92% in 2023) reflect a deepening moral decay.
“For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.” —Romans 1:22

The press release mentions, “Since home abortions were introduced, a number of significant problems have arisen.” The implication is that these problems can be resolved through better regulation. This is a grave deception. Abortion cannot be regulated into morality—it must be abolished. The practice of terminating innocent lives is inherently evil, and no amount of regulation can change that.
Yet, Right to Life UK uses the example of one mother who killed her child between 32 and 34 weeks during COVID as an example of why home consultations are necessary:
“Since then, we have seen these concerns confirmed, with women such as Carla Foster performing at-home abortions well beyond the 24-week time limit, putting their health at serious risk. If Carla Foster had been given an in-person consultation, where her gestation could have been accurately determined, she would not have been able to access abortion pills and this tragic case would have been prevented”.
Right To Life UK’s focus on the safety of the mothers performing these abortions, citing cases like Foster’s, is a red herring. Making sure abortions are “safe” for mothers is like offering condoms to rapists so they don’t catch STDs from their victims.
The core issue is the sanctity of life—every unborn child is a unique creation, deserving of protection from the moment of conception. The argument for in-person consultations is an incrementalist approach that fails to confront the fundamental injustice of abortion. It prioritizes the health and well-being of the perpetrators over the lives of their innocent victims.
Our society’s acceptance of abortion is a reflection of a deeper spiritual crisis. The Bible is unequivocal in its condemnation of shedding innocent blood. Proverbs 6:16-17 lists “hands that shed innocent blood” among the things the Lord hates. Abortion is a manifestation of this sin, and our response must be one of uncompromising opposition.
In reality, the incrementalist strategy of the mainstream pro-life movement is a betrayal of the cause it claims to champion. It settles for minor adjustments within a framework of moral atrocity instead of demanding its complete dismantling. This approach not only fails to save lives but also undermines the moral clarity necessary for true cultural transformation.
We must call for repentance and a return to biblical principles. The solution to the abortion crisis is not more regulation but a revival of the fear of God and a demand for laws that reflect the value of life as ordained by God. As a church, we need to cultivate a culture of life that recognizes every human being—born and unborn—as made in the image of God. This begins with a total and unwavering commitment to abolishing abortion entirely.
