In a recent and deplorable move, the Roman Catholic Church, under the leadership of pope Francis, has once again displayed its longstanding animosity toward God’s word by approving blessings for same-sex couples. Following in the footsteps of the Church of England recently, this decision is a stark reminder of the tragic reality that the Roman Catholic Church abandoned the authority of Scripture centuries ago, opting instead for the fallible decrees of popes and the corruptible whims of vain, man-made ideologies. This latest decree is yet another manifestation of a church that has long forsaken the unerring Word of God for doctrines of demons, setting itself up as a god, defiantly opposing the clear teachings of Scripture.

The Vatican’s statement, asserting that priests can bless same-sex couples, encapsulates this brazen defiance of God. By declaring that people seeking God’s love and mercy should not undergo “an exhaustive moral analysis,” the Roman Catholic Church not only contravenes the biblical teaching on marriage and sexuality but also blatantly disregards the divine standard of holiness. This decision is not a mere deviation from its already aberrant tradition—it is a flagrant rebellion against the Creator, who established marriage as a covenant between one man and one woman.

This egregious decision is the fruit of a church that has traded the infallible truth of God’s Word for the whims of social acceptance and progressivism. By doing so, the Roman Catholic Church has shown that it is not a guardian of divine truth but a purveyor of doctrine of demons. The approval of blessings for same-sex couples is not an act of pastoral care but a capitulation to cultural pressure, a clear demonstration of the church’s preference for human approval over divine.

The theological implications of this decision are catastrophic and demonstrative of a gospel that has no power to save and transform the lives of those who believe it. By sanctioning what God has expressly forbidden, the Roman Catholic Church has not only muddied the waters of Christian doctrine but has also led countless astray. This act is not isolated but is part of a pattern of apostasy, where man’s ideas and preferences are exalted above God’s clear commands. The Roman Catholic Church has shown itself to be a false church, a mother of many harlots, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.

Furthermore, this decision reveals the inherent danger in a church structure that elevates human leaders to the level of infallibility. When a church replaces the authority of Scripture with the decrees of a pope, it opens the door to all manner of heretical teachings and practices. The Roman Catholic Church is, to borrow a phrase from Andy Stanley, untethered from the anchor of God’s Word, tossed to and fro by the waves of cultural trends and human reasoning.

The Roman Catholic Church’s approval of blessings for same-sex couples is not just a theological error. It is a willful and audacious act of rebellion against God that demonstrates what happens when a church abandons the authority of Scripture and follows the seductive path of human reason. If this institution fails on marriage and sexuality, it’s merely a matter of time before to fails on all other doctrines of morality—including abortion, which it has historically stood firm on. After all, why not? If the pope can change his mind on one thing, what’s to stop another pope from changing his mind on something else? The Roman Catholic Church, in its current form, stands in direct opposition to the truth of the Gospel, and its teachings must be unequivocally rejected.
