Obergefell v. Hodges, a landmark 2015 U.S. Supreme Court decision, mandated the legal recognition of same-sex marriage nationwide, overturning traditional marriage definitions rooted in historic, biblical principles. This ruling, a direct challenge to God and His design for the family unit, disregarded not only millennia of established religious and cultural norms regarding marriage between one man and one woman but was a proverbial middle finger to the Creator of the institution Himself.

One would think that such a heinous crime against God and family that surely invokes His wrath and judgment would be fertile ground for opposition from God’s people. Yet, despite the horrific nature of the ruling, some Southern Baptist pastors are making a case against any effort to overturn it in the future, with one citing “harm to already established unions” as his reason.

Responding to a Twitter post, Joel Rainey, Lead Pastor at Covenant Church, a Southern Baptist church in the Baltimore, MD area, argues that homosexuals in these civil unions are in “marriage relationships,” stating that his opposition to overturning “gay marriage” (something that doesn’t exist), as not wanting to deal with the aftermath of unholy unions being “suddenly invalidated.”

Really? It doesn’t matter what the fallout would be if we overturned the legislative legitimization of such a gross distortion of God’s design for marriage. Recognizing such atrocities is far worse—most importantly, it has led to the trafficking of children through the foster and adoption system to sodomites. And in many cases, Christian parents who refuse to capitulate to this militant homosexual movement are denied adoption rights.

As such, these men argue that there is “no liberal drift” in the Southern Baptist Convention. Yet, to not only argue that homosexual unions are “valid” but that Christians shouldn’t concern themselves with overturning them is beyond imbecilic from a Biblical perspective. Just a few years ago, Christians were making the same argument about overturning Roe.

The world agrees with Joel Rainey. The world stands with Joel Rainey. The world wants Christian pastors to think and act like Joel Rainey. They want neutered, effeminate men making their case for them. But rest assured, God hates these unions, sees them as invalid, and is angry at those who would allow the world, rather than His word, to dictate what God’s institutions should look like.
