You may remember several years ago when a highly popular pastor, Josh Harris, surprised the Christian world with his sudden apostasy as he divorced his wife and became an open activist for the LGBTQ community. Oh, you weren’t surprised? Well, neither was I, and neither were most people who are aware of what the celebrity pastor industry does to you. It happens to almost all of them—Carl Lentz, Brian Houston, Josh Harris, Mark Driscoll, Perry Noble, Andy Stanley…the list goes on. The celebrity snare catches you in its intense grips and doesn’t let go. Very few have been able to resist.
That’s why it should surprise absolutely no one that another former youth pastor of a popular megachurch has come out as LGBTQ-affirming—and not just as an “ally,” but a full-on advocate, even involving his own children in the celebration of this sexual immorality. He desired celebrity over faithfulness to God, and he now has it.
In a Twitter thread, Nate Worthington, the former youth pastor of Adventure Community Church, announced he was now fully queer affirming:
According to his LinkedIn profile, beginning in 2005, he oversaw the entire youth and college ministry and he received his bachelor’s in youth ministry from Liberty University.

According to his Twitter thread, what changed his perspective was “dwelling among LGBTQ people,” “therapy and books,” participating in Phoenix gay pride events, and consulting other “affirming Christians.” Conspicuously missing from his list is the Word of God. In fact, he goes on to say that he “had not been able to definitively come out of the theological closet until today.” To translate, he had to abandon the Word of God in order to become affirming.
The worst part about it is that he has dragged his entire family, including his young children, into this apostasy. God help them.
