A “pride” group based in Florida, Pride of the Treasure Coast, has been forced to cancel an event they had originally planned, which exposed underage children to lewd sexual behavior. The cancellation of the event came as a result of a pending new law passed by both chambers and is expected to be signed by Governor DeSantis that protects children from sexual exploitation.

The law, SB 1438, 1st Engrossed, aims to protect children by prohibiting governmental entities from issuing permits or authorizations for performances that violate specific provisions. This law also provides criminal penalties for those who knowingly admit children to adult live performances. Furthermore, the legislation amends existing statutes to allow for the suspension, revocation, or fining of licenses for public lodging establishments, public food service establishments, and alcoholic beverage licenses if they are found to admit children to adult live performances.

In the case of Pride of the Treasure Coast, they were forced to cancel part of the event and move the remaining event into a venue only accessible to those ages 21 and up due to not being able to comply with this new legislation. By passing this law, Florida has demonstrated its commitment to protecting children from inappropriate content and potential sexual exploitation. The law makes it clear that admitting children to adult live performances, which may contain explicit material, is not acceptable.

In addition to the cancellation of the event, the passage of this law highlights the importance of safeguarding children from sexually explicit content. Events that expose children to lewd sexual behavior have significant negative effects on their mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being. By enacting this legislation, Florida has taken a proactive approach to ensure that children are not exposed to harmful content.

Florida’s passage of SB 1438 is a commendable step toward protecting children from sexual exploitation and the state has demonstrated its commitment to the safety and well-being of its youngest citizens. This law serves as an example of how governments can take action to ensure that children are not exposed to inappropriate content and can grow up in a safe and nurturing environment.
