When Black History Month liturgy goes terribly wrong, what you are about to hear in the video below is what you get. The death of George Floyd has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on society, fueling a cult-like movement that has taken on religious fervor. This cult, known as the “woke church,” has built a proverbial altar to the goddess of Black Lives Matter, turning to her for daily praise and worship.
This cultish ideology, which is deeply rooted in a Marxist philosophy known as Critical Race Theory, has made its way into some factions of the Evangelical church through leaders like Eric Mason, Jemar Tisby, and Thabiti Anyabwile. However, it is essential to note that this worldview is fundamentally incompatible with biblical Christianity.
Critical Race Theory posits that institutional racism exists within every structure of society and is designed to uphold “white supremacy.” This theory is not based on objective evidence but instead relies on anecdotal evidence and personal experiences, making it a heretical worldview that flies in the face of biblical truth.
The woke church’s idolization of this ideology is nothing short of idolatry, which runs counter to the first commandment of the Christian faith and its tenets are far removed from the fundamental beliefs of Christianity, and therefore, we must know and understand the stark differences and not conflate the ideology of this cult and true, biblical Christianity.

Here’s an example of the cult’s meditations: A Methodist church led by two women adorned in rainbow-splattered pride gear standing in the pulpit, Emily Flemming and Kimberly Scott, repeat a liturgical sermon that was originally written by feminist Mary C. Johnson.
