Jeff Durbin Accuses ERLC of Heresy For False Teaching on Mother’s Culpability in Having an Abortion

As the Southern Baptist Convention’s annual meeting wrapped up last week, several of the pastors, leaders, and entity heads made it clear as to what their allegiance is to—and for an alarming number of them, it isn’t to Scripture. To the applause of the majority of the crowd, the sitting president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC), Brent Leatherwood, made it clear that he did not want, nor was it the position of the SBC’s pro-life movement, to hold mothers accountable for aborting their children.

During that speech, he tells the audience: here’s the reality, you’re not going to get me to say that a woman who has willfully had an abortion should be behind bars. The clip of that statement can be seen below:

The idea that mothers hold no responsibility for abortion is, as Jeff Durbin explains in his podcast, “heresy.” This idea teaches contrary to Scripture that individual responsibility for sin should be instead laid on the shoulders of society.
