It is extremely unusual for popes to resign prior to their death. However, the former pope, Joseph Ratzinger is still alive as the current pope, Jorge Bergoglio, aka Pope Francis, still holds the office. However, rumors of his impending resignation are all over social media with a few news agents reporting on the rumor.
Megyn Kelly reported live from the Vatican that she could see “a ton of cardinals,” which her guide told her is “highly unusual.”
While rumors are nothing new in the Vatican, Francis has been a highly unpopular pope among conservative Roman Catholics and the first of his kind, both a Jesuit and a liberal, to hold the office. The pope has been highly welcoming to staunch advocates of both the LGBTQ community as well as the pro-abortion lobby.
