Church Does Stupid Remix of Back to the Future “Uptown Funk” as a Worship Song

There is no shortage of stupidity going on in places that people like to call churches—they are not churches, they are goat farms. Popularized by Hillsong, the Circus Church™ has become an icon in modern, progressive seeker-friendly churches. These churches have become all about the performance, entertainment, and experience and they have nothing to do with God.

Charles Spurgeon has been credited with predicting that “A time will come when instead of shepherds feeding the sheep, the church will have clowns entertaining the goats!” It didn’t take a prophet to make this prediction, but the prediction was certainly prophetic. Of course, Spurgeon probably wasn’t thinking decades or even centuries in the future, he was thinking about the current trend of his time. The theatre, during his time, had already had its grips on the Church; and it’s only gotten worse since then.

The latest video to surface is a production of a church doing a remix of the Back to the Future version of “Uptown Funk” to completely different lyrics. Here’s a sample of the lyrics.

This man was ice cold
Placed in the tomb to save your soul
The Son, for them hood girls
The whole world Stragith masterpieces
Teachin’ about sin
Forgivin’ the lost in the city
Got nailed on the cross at dawn
But now He’s back and He’s living

This isn’t the only church doing this, though. Other churches, including the International Church of Las Vegas, have also put on similar performances.

History has never suffered a shortage of theologians who chose comfort over confrontation, accommodation over courage. In the courts of corrupt kings and the halls of dead and decaying empires, there were always those willing to drape cowardice in the language of...
