Lisa Fields is the founder of the Jude 3 Project, an organization that says it is dedicated to “current issues and the intellectual struggles of Christians of African descent in the United States and abroad.” Fields is a favorite among leftist groups such as The Gospel Coalition and has been a speaker at Southern Baptist Seminaries, including New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. In short, Fields is a welcome member of the Evangelical woke camp and because she is useful for pushing their narrative, she is at home with them.
The Jude 3 Project has been running a series called Why I Don’t Go to Church. In a recent episode, Fields and her colleague, Rasool Berry, have a panel discussion on “homophobia” in the Black Church. One of the questions was if the church should be “shunning” homosexuals. Fields’ response was that the Church should not be shunning them, because they write a lot of gospel music.
Fields’ response demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of the Scriptures. While churches should allow anyone who wants to hear the Word of God preached to attend, under no circumstances are those who live in rebellion to God to be considered part of the Church. And if the Church is preaching the actual gospel and rightly handling the text–as it is supposed to do–then those who are in unrepentant sin will be faced with either a call to repentance or a hardened heart, upon which they will leave on their own accord.
The Church is the body of Christ–the body of Christ is not made up of unregenerate, unrepentant sinners.
