Pressure is starting to mount once again for the newly-elected scandalous Southern Baptist president, Ed Litton, to resign amid his Sermongate scandal. Litton, who has been exposed as a serial plagiarist who repeatedly obfuscates the truth and denies the seriousness of what happened, has been called a “laughing stock” by a prominent theologian, Carl Trueman.

Litton has been caught repeatedly plagiarizing former SBC president, JD Greear’s sermons during their sermon series on Romans. But we have found sermons that he has plagiarized from other pastors as well, and some dating back as far as 2013. This has been an ongoing issue for Litton–and the integrity of the Southern Baptist Convention which he continues to say he’s trying to promote–for a number of years.

“There is a difference between competent and appropriate sermon preparation to make sure what you present to your people is worth hearing and straightforward,” Trueman says, “to use the English vernacular, knocking off somebody else’s sermon to save you some prep time.”
