Southern Baptist Church Calls a Female as Lead Pastor

by | Apr 19, 2021 | Feminism, News, Social-Issues, The Church | 0 comments

Calvary Baptist Church of Waco, TX, is a Southern Baptist Convention affiliated church. Calvary announced yesterday that the church had called Hannah Coe of First Baptist Church Jefferson City to serve as their senior pastor.

In a letter to her current church where she serves as “Pastor of Families and Faith Formation,” she writes,

Several years ago, God called me into a distinct period of discernment. During that season of discovery, wrestling, and growing in faith I came to trust God with my future in a new way. I fully and completely accepted God’s call to serve as a senior pastor. After several months of discerning conversation and prayer, I have total peace and know that I am undeniably called to serve as Calvary’s next pastor.

The Southern Baptist Convention has been under quite a bit of scrutiny in the last few years as other female preachers like Beth Moore have left the denomination because it isn’t friendly enough to females pastors. While at the same time, there is a growing movement and acceptance of rebellious female pastors and preachers in the denomination despite the denomination’s official position against it.

The Southern Baptist Convention has been drifting leftward for years, particularly since Russell Moore took over as head of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission in 2014. Russell Moore stated a few years ago in response to a vocal movement against the tolerance of Beth Moore’s rebellion that an “SBC that doesn’t have a place for Beth Moore doesn’t have a place for a lot of us.”

The Southern Baptist Convention is now facing a crossroads–it will have to either decide to purge the rebellious liberals once again from the denomination, or to accept and go in the way of every other apostate denomination in history.
