There has been a shift in the LGBTQ community and quite a number of them in recent years have turned toward supporting Republican politicians — particularly, Donald Trump. While Democrats still hold a near-monopoly on sexual aberrancy, Donald Trump himself has garnered the support of more homosexuals than any other Republican president in modern history.
It’s fascinating to see, but we conservatives must not become complacent.
First, if homosexuals find themselves more in agreement on other issues with Republicans than they do Democrats, that’s fine. We’re glad to have the votes. It is certainly possible for LGBTQ people to still believe in protecting the constitution, oppose abortion, and free speech. But we must be clear — homosexuality is not a conservative value.
Conservatism stems from a theistic worldview grounded in God’s revelation to mankind. And although that worldview is embedded in us through God’s general revelation — the heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork (Psalm 19:1) — it is refined and embraced through the Scriptures. The Scriptures declare that “although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.” (Romans 1:21)

This is what we see with “gay conservatives,” people who know and understand who God is but refuse to honor him with their bodies. Homosexuality is not compatible with conservatism and their worldview is not conservative. It is aberrant behavior, grotesque to the mind that is set on the Spirit. It is not a behavior that true conservatives embrace that is normal. It is of the flesh; the mind that is set on the flesh cannot please God (Romans 8:8).
“Gay conservatism” is not conservatism, it is not for the purpose of conserving a Christian worldview. It is motivated by self-preservation.
