ERLC Director of Communications, Trillia Newbell, responded to Southern Baptist Theological Seminary professor, Denny Burk’s comments about the recent findings by the Kentucky Attorney General that no murder was committed in the case of Breonna Taylor with “I’m not sure how Breonna Taylor’s murder could be justified in any way.”

Today, KY Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced that there would be no charges filed for murder against the three officers involved in the shooting of Breonna Taylor earlier this year. The findings, while accurate, do not purport with the “woke” narrative of the progressive left, including those Evangelical leftists who have joined the ranks of secular Marxists to advance a cause of “social justice” built on falsehoods. Among those Evangelical leftists are Newbell, who works directly for Russell Moore and is supported by Southern Baptists.

The bottom line is that the Evangelical woke movement is perpetuating a narrative that innocent black people are being hunted down and murdered by white police officers. It’s a lie, and the division and strife being caused by those advancing this narrative is destructive to our society, our nation, and the Church. Instead of addressing the root problem in these episodes — drugs, gangs, violence, shooting at police officers first — Newbell would rather cause racial division by advancing a lie.
