Conversion therapy has been a point of contention across the globe for a number of years now. While some have argued that conversion therapy consists of abusive practices, the therapy itself is largely a form of religious, nouthetic (biblical) counseling that calls on people to repent of their God-dishonoring desires and turn to Christ in faith.

Yet, cities, states, and countries around the world are banning this counseling at alarming rates making it nearly impossible for those with unwanted same-sex attractions to find the spiritual help they need to live a God-honoring life.

Canada is now the most recent country to join the bandwagon of Christianity-banning as the country federal government introduces new legislation that would ban the practice of “conversion therapy.”

  • causing a minor to undergo conversion therapy
  • removing a minor from Canada to undergo conversion therapy abroad
  • causing a person to undergo conversion therapy against their will
  • profiting from providing conversion therapy
  • advertising an offer to provide conversion therapy

The legislation would also “authorize courts to order the seizure of conversion therapy advertisements or to order their removal from computer systems or the Internet.”

“Conversion therapy is a cruel practice that can lead to life-long trauma, particularly for young people,” David Lametti, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada said. “The approach we are proposing today demonstrates our Government’s strong commitment to protecting the dignity and equality rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and two-spirit Canadians, by criminalizing a practice that discriminates against and harms them. If passed, this bill would make Canada’s laws on conversion therapy the most progressive and comprehensive in the world.”

Bardish Chagger, the Minister of Diversity and Inclusion and Youth said, “the progressive legislation we proposed today will help to ensure that everyone, everywhere in Canada can be who they truly are, and live full, healthy, and safe lives.”

Canada is among the most hostile countries to Christianity in the Western world. This should come as no surprise since the country has been dabbling with socialism and communism for so long now.
