Why bother going to Vegas when you can bring Vegas right into your home. Or in this case, your church. A prominent Southern Baptist leader and Vice President of the Southern Baptist North American Mission Board hosted a Casino Night event Friday night for Christians to kick off the new year.

Dubbed the 20/20 Celebration at Blueprint Church in Atlanta, GA, senior pastor Dhati Lewis — who also leads the mission entity’s SEND Network — invited everyone “to enjoy hors d’oeuvres, black jacks, poker, roulette, craps, and a game truck for the chance to win special prizes! We also invite everyone to enjoy a relaxing time of conversation in our courtyard by the fire. “

Featuring a dope beat about how God is blessing them, the video explains that during the church’s 10-year anniversary the church has grown so now they celebrate it like this. What any of this has to do with God, the Scriptures, or the mission and function of the church, one is only left to wonder. Maybe they can’t come up with a better way to see the gospel go forth.

The lights dim. A soft purple haze spreads across the stage, a carefully manufactured mist rising from hidden fog machines like some mystical veil between heaven and earth. The lead singer, a guy with the vocal timbre of a teenage boy penning poetry in his journal,...
