Maverick City Music is a contemporary Christian music collective that features contemporary artists from multiple genres and has worked extensively with well-known Christian rap artists including Lecrae, Kirk Franklin, and Dante Bowe.

I’ve argued relentlessly that these self-proclaimed Christian bands—whether it be rock or pop style music such as Hillsong, Bethel, etc. or these worldly rap groups who identify with gang culture like Lecrae or Maverick City Music—are doing nothing except using the Church as a means to launch their secular careers in music. Time after time, these bands go through the same cycle of deconstruction, using Christianity to become famous, speaking out against what the Bible says on social or moral issues, and then ultimately abandoning the faith altogether.

Last year, Maverick City Music star Dante Bowe made headlines after posting nude photos of himself on social media. He was already under fire, releasing a public statement apologizing for his behavior after he was released by the group for “behavior that is inconsistent with our core values and beliefs.”

Right. Right. Well, it didn’t take long for him to show back up. And, well, I guess that’s why another one of their stars wants to start making secular music about sex because, well, the Bible has all kinds of secular advice about sex and life too. Chandler Moore, one of the “Christian” groups top artists, recently released a video stating that he wants to start putting these topics in “mainstream songs and melodies,” a catchphrase for secular music.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t see this going well. Every single Christian rapper who has sold their soul to the secular music market has deconstructed and apostatized.
