Dr. Field Harrison, a megachurch pastor of Amen Church in Dallas, TX, is making headlines over recent comments about homosexual relationships and marriage. His insistence that those who hold to a biblical sexual ethic are committing the unpardonable sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit violates the clear teaching of Scripture.

There is no ambiguity, the Bible explicitly condemns homosexuality as a sin and makes no exception for homosexuals who insist that they “love” each other. While some attempt to argue that Jesus never spoke directly about same-gender relationships, this is an absurd notion and the broader teachings of the Bible, which not only did Jesus fully affirm, but spoke and fulfilled reinforce the idea that these relationships are sinful.

Harrison’s views are both unscriptural and harmful to the LGBTQ+ community by withholding the truth of the Bible and the saving grace found only in the gospel of Jesus Christ through faith and repentance.

“Some say you can’t drink,” Harrison argued, “He [Jesus] says, I’m gonna make wine at this party. When we run out, they say I’m gonna be judgmental. I’m supposed to be judgmental. Jesus says you should not be judgmental, otherwise you will be judged.”

“They say you that nobody of the same sex should ever get married. Jesus goes mute on this issue. Jesus says love is sacred. There’s only one unforgivable sin, the sin against the Holy Spirit, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit,” Harrison continued.

“And if you think preaching against love isn’t blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, then I don’t know what is. When people love each other to break that up, that is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. And it’s time for someone in church to speak up, that what we are preaching is ridiculous” Harrison added.

“And we have to follow Jesus on another level. His words deserve to be the highest. He spoke for the father. No one else spoke for the Father other than Jesus Christ. That is what makes him the Messiah,” he continued.
