A supposedly Christian publication recently released an article titled 5 Christian billionaires you should know. Among the give listed were several names you may or may not be overly familiar with, and none of whom we should consider to be actual Christians. But one name jumped out, in particular—Bill Gates.

Bill Gates, the article claims, is a Christian billionaire. Bill Gates, the man who wants to take over the world with technology and science, is, according to the article, a Christian. I mean, LOL!

The article describes Gates as a Christian because he stated in an interview with Rolling Stone that “it makes sense to believe in God” because of unanswered questions about the creation of the universe:

A man who needs no introduction, Bill Gates is one of the world’s richest men. The founder of Microsoft has pursued various philanthropic causes under their own non-profit foundation. In an interview with Relevant Magazine, Bill spoke about how important his religious beliefs are to him and his whole family, with them all attending the same church. Further, he also mentioned that “…it makes sense to believe in God.”

The interview linked was actually an interview at Rolling Stone, not Relevant, and Gates’s exact words were:

I agree with people like Richard Dawkins that mankind felt the need for creation myths. Before we really began to understand disease and the weather and things like that, we sought false explanations for them. Now science has filled in some of the realm – not all – that religion used to fill. But the mystery and the beauty of the world is overwhelmingly amazing, and there’s no scientific explanation of how it came about. To say that it was generated by random numbers, that does seem, you know, sort of an uncharitable view [laughs]. I think it makes sense to believe in God, but exactly what decision in your life you make differently because of it, I don’t know.

Of course, his assertion here is true, in a sense; it does make sense to believe in God. But nowhere did Gates say he believed in the Christian God. In fact, he stated that he and his kids attend his wife’s Catholic Church and that he sometimes “participates,” but again, that doesn’t make you a Christian—it makes you a fool.
