Kenny Hart, senior pastor at The Gathering Harlem, blasphemes God by saying that Jesus, who wept over Jerusalem’s future destruction, is almost like Colin Kaepernick, who hates God and stands for pretty much everything God is against.

Jesus says you can’t serve God and money. He said you’re gonna love one and forsake the other. There’s this line in the sand that God says, and he doesn’t say you can’t love your country. In fact, Jesus loved Israel. Loved Israel. At the same time, he said that at the same time, he wept over his nation. He wept over where Israel was. He looked over the nation and looked at the heart [inaudible] and looked at the oppression in the land and looked at the poor and looked at the marginal and looked at the way that the lepers were treated and women were treated and all these different groups were treated. And Jesus wept over that, knowing that he would have to die for it.

So there’s a way in which he says, in order to love my country, this is almost Kaepernick-ian. Abd I’m just throwing that in there, [inaudible] bomb to drop. But it’s almost Kaepernick-ian, where he’s saying: If I’m going to protest where my country’s at, not because I don’t love my country but because I do.

As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”]

I love America. This is the only country I know. But there’s a way in which my experience in America has been clouded by my race and my position in this society. And that experience does not mean I don’t love my country, it means that I have to love my country differently. It means that my love has to change its form. It’s not that love is different, it just takes a different form.
