Dear Abortive Mothers,

I want to apologize on behalf of the Church for not being upfront with you. We, as the Church, have failed you in many ways.

First, I would like to apologize on behalf of the Church for lying to you. You see, the Church has been relentlessly advancing the idea that abortive mothers should not be held accountable for their act of murder against their unborn child. The Church, particularly the compromised, feckless and neutered men who lead the Evangelical Church, has been heavily promoting the notion that mothers who abort their children are in fact just another victim of abortion. This is simply not true and does not line up with the Biblical teaching of personal accountability for sins.

The truth is, you are not a victim—you stand guilty of murder before the eyes of God and apart from Christ, you will be judged according to your works. God hates the hands that shed innocent blood (Proverbs 6:17). The Bible is clear that apart from Christ, all of your works are like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6) and that not only are you guilty of murder, you deserve to die (Romans 1:32). I apologize that we have whitewashed this truth.

Further, I would like to apologize on behalf of the Church for leading you to believe that the Church—or society in general—somehow owes you compensation in the form of social justice in exchange for not killing your child. You see, the Church has been teaching that one of the main reasons mothers abort their children is due to the fear of economic instability and that in order to decrease abortion rates the Church must offer alternatives such as adoption, free housing and healthcare, and various other charitable acts to ease your burden.

While the Church does have a responsibility before God to act in kindness to those in need, it is not the primary duty of the Church to furnish your temporal needs, especially in exchange for the life of your child. It is primarily you and the father’s responsibility to take care of your children. And if you choose to kill your child because you can’t afford to support your child, you will be held accountable before God not only for the life of your child but for the sexual immorality that led you to this place, to begin with.

Lastly, I would like to apologize for not being fully truthful about your status before God. You see, the Church has primarily focused on charitable works and weak pro-life legislation that would offer alternatives to abortion at the expense of others rather than speaking biblical morality to your conscience. The fact is, you, as the abortive mother, know that killing your child is wrong, but the Church has placated you and attempted to absolve you of your guilt. The truth, however, is that God sees you as a murderer and a transgressor of His righteous law. And Revelation 21:8 says that as a murderer, your portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death. Your sin must be punished. I am deeply sorry that you have not been clearly told this truth.

However, there is good news. There is still hope. You see, God is not only righteous and just and filled with wrath against wickedness—He is also merciful and filled with grace. So how can justice be carried out, God’s wrath be satisfied, and you still be forgiven and receive the Kingdom of God? As it turns out, God, in His infinite mercy, sent His son Jesus to die on the cross in place of sinners. Jesus, who is God, became fully man in what Romans 8:3 says “the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin.” That means He was sent to Earth to live a perfect life, the life you and I cannot live, fulfilling God’s requirement for flawless righteousness (Romans 8:4). Jesus, on the cross, took on the sin of those He came to die for and bore the full wrath and hatred of God for our sin, satisfying the wrath of God. Three days later, He rose from the dead, defeating sin and defeating death, and now sits at the right hand of the Father forever making intercession for those who would repent of their sin and trust in Jesus as their savior.

I apologize that this truth has not been clearly presented to you. If you’ve committed abortion, you have demonstrated a heart that is hard against God. God says in Proverbs 8:36 that all who hate Him love death. It takes a person whose heart has been so hardened against God to love death enough to murder an innocent child, and you are not a victim of this crime against the Creator. Apart from the saving grace of Christ, death and Hell is your end, but I would urge you today to receive the forgiveness that can only be found at the cross of Jesus Christ.

Sincerely,
